How much time do you really need your photographer for on your wedding day?

Hey Fam!  Happy 2018!  My scattered ADD brain has been allllll over the map today as I sat at my desk, so after checking my email, I was inspired!

I have been getting a TON of inquires from all you fab loves who got something shiny over the holidays and I’m LOVIN’ hearing all about you!  One of the biggest things I’m seeing is, “I’m thinking I’ll need you for 10-11 hours of photography coverage and a second photographer”.  Ok, you don’t need me for 11 hours.  Promise.  I’ve shot a few 12 hour weddings, but there were very specific reasons, like a 2 hour traditional Indian ceremony or Sparty was coming late night to surprise the Groom.  I thought the same thing when I got married – “I need all day coverage!  I need evvvvvvverything to be documented”.  Again, no.  Just no.

So how much time do you really need your photographer on your wedding day?  I’m sure from reading my blog or if you know me in real life, you can tell that I am not in the business of taking over the day with a ton of photos.  When I meet with my couples, we lay out the timeline and I suggest what I feel they will need in terms of photography coverage.   Sure, I’ll make more money if you hire me all day, but you don’t need it, and you know I’m not all about that.  I mean, do you really want a professional wedding photographer there before you’re awake/have your makeup applied or have one there when you’re a few drinks in after dancing for hours?    Probably not.

Have your photographer (hopefully moi!) come for the super important stuff: getting into your dress until a few songs after your First Dance and parent dances.  That way, I capture the fun vibe of the party, but not 50 photos of your super drunk 2nd cousin.  Believe me, someone will take a photo of it, you don’t need to may a pro to do it!  Of course talk your timeline through with your wedding planner and wedding photographer, but know you really only need her/him there for the big stuff. How much time to you really need your photographer for on your wedding day? | Metro Detroit Wedding Photographer
